Course overview

Skilful communication and negotiation skills are essential for regulatory professionals. This course teaches participants how to recognise and use different negotiation strategies while maintaining trust and respect with complex groups of stakeholders. After this session, delegates will be able to develop and deliver impactful presentations and documents that deliver the required results.

The course is delivered in two parts:

1. Pre-course on-demand webinars: These webinars provide practical guidance on planning interactions, managing conflict, and following up effectively

  • Webinar 1: Internal and external communication as a regulatory affairs professional
  • Webinar 2: Internal and external negotiation as a regulatory affairs professional

2. Face-to-face skills workshop: Participants apply the techniques from the webinars, practising negotiation strategies, building trust with stakeholders, and delivering presentations and documents that achieve results

Course presenter



Joe Cheal has been training, consulting and coaching since 1993, working with thousands of people from a diverse range of companies over the past 25 years. He is a highly interactive and engaging speaker who focusses on practical solutions for ‘real-world’ implementation.



Andy Thornley is a Regulatory Affairs leader with experience in Consumer Health, information systems, and multi-disciplinary teams at companies including GSK and J&J. He has represented the AESGP at EMA and EU forums on topics such as ISO IDMP/SPOR, eCTD v4.0, and Regulatory Optimisation. In the webinar, Andy will share insights on communication and influencing which will help regulatory affairs professionals develop their effectiveness.
