Improving writing for patients
Improving writing for patients

Original presentation date: 5 September 2019

Overview

This webinar will use multiple examples of good (and not so good) patient information to help participants improve their writing for patients. If you don’t routinely write for patients – equally, it will help you assess information written by others – does it meet patient need? Vital to writing well for patients is to test the information – can real people find and understand the information they need? The webinar will also outline how best such ‘user testing’ can be carried out. So, whether you contribute to the writing of patient information leaflets, IFUs, risk management materials, informed consent forms, lay summaries (such as those for clinical trials) – this webinar will arm you with the golden rules that you need.

Target audience

This webinar is aimed at those who are involved in writing for patients, and wanting to improve this area.

Presenter

Theo Raynor practised as a hospital pharmacist before becoming inaugural Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Leeds in 2000. His 35 years of research has focused on the need to improve the information people get about their medicines. Theo’s research has critically examined the impact of European legislation on patient leaflets, and how they are tested with the public – so called ‘user testing’. This led to the formation of spin-out company, Luto Research, now a leading and influential provider of user testing services internationally. The synergies between the University and Luto are the foundation of his recent research which has influenced policy in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. Theo has advised the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration. He has delivered invited plenaries across the world and has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fédération Internationale Pharmaceutique (FIP).
