TOPRA Symposium attracts record number of delegates, National and European Agency Staff The Fifth TOPRA Annual Symposium began yesterday in Budapest. The three day conference will cover a broad range of the most topical subjects for professionals in all areas of regulatory affairs.
The meeting was opened by Dr Héjja Mária, Head of The Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices, Hungarian Ministry of Health.
On behalf of the Ministry, she welcomed delegates to Budapest for such an important scientific conference.

Emergencies and evolving thinking on animal health issues leads Symposium

Drawing upon one of the themes of the TOPRA Symposium, Continuous Regulatory Evolution, the risks posed by avian influenza and blue tongue disease in ruminants has forced an urgent re-think about how to respond to animal disease threats in the EU.

“Prevention is better than cure” stated Dr. Klaus Depner, involved in animal disease control within DG SanCo, while describing how the community animal health policy has evolved in response to lessons learnt from the Foot and Mouth outbreaks, the avian influenza threat, and swine fever outbreaks.

As we approach the 2008 TOPRA Symposium, ‘Continuous Regulatory Evolution’, in conjunction with the Hungarian Regulatory Agency, I have been asked to reflect briefly on activities that have happened or are happening within TOPRA this year.

First, my highest priority on taking on the Presidency at the last Symposium in Copenhagen was to actively implement the TOPRA strategy which was put together by all the TOPRA Board early in 2007 under Axel Wenzel’s Leadership. So this is what we have been busy on and the

Addressing the largest ever TOPRA Annual Symposium in Copenhagen, Dr. Emil Hristov, Director of the Bulgarian Drug Agency, set out in detail his Agency’s work to become a member of the European Regulatory Network as a new member state since January.
