Salary Survey

The 2006 TOPRA Salary Survey was carried out amongst TOPRA members during August and September 2006 with the aim of providing an overview of the employment and salary situation in the Regulatory Affairs sector. There were 127 respondents, a response rate of 4.5%.

Some of the key results are:

  • In terms of Salary levels, most respondents earn between £20,000 and £40,000
  • More than 90% of respondents receive some sort of benefit, most of which are bonuses calculated as percentage of people’s salaries.
  • Most respondents have a completed degree as their highest qualification
  • Almost a third of respondents have between 6 and 10 years experience.
  • They have been in their current position between 1 and 5 years
  • Just over half of respondents are currently employed in corporate/regional headquarters
  • Most respondents work in Ethical Pharma (40.2%), with 12.6% working in Generics and 14.2% in Biotech
  • Most respondents work in relatively small departments of up to 5 people
  • A large percentage of respondents (41.7%) work in very large companies of more than 1,000 employees
  • Almost a quarter (24.4%) is employed as a Regulatory Affairs Consultant, Executive, Officer or Manager
  • Just over half of respondents have no direct reports
  • About 90% of respondents work full-time in Regulatory Affairs
  • Respondents are mostly aged between 31 and 35
  • 17.3% entered the profession straight from University with 82.7% having carried out a different job before joining Regulatory Affairs.
  • Two-thirds of respondents feel that they have had to move around to gain the role they wanted
