TOPRA IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE... The TOPRA Annual Lecture
The first TOPRA Annual Lecture will take place on 28 November, preceding the TOPRA Regulatory Affairs Awards Dinner and Ceremony.
Each year, the Lecture will offer Regulatory Professionals an opportunity to hear a world-class authority reflect on the current environment for the regulatory profession and give their predictions for the future. Although the lecturers will present a personal perspective, they will offer an important ‘horizon scan’ to give attendees an insight into the challenges we face as a profession. The lectures will also be an ideal opportunity to network with some of the most influential people in regulatory science.
We are delighted that the first TOPRA Annual Lecture will be delivered by Professor Sir Michael Rawlins.
Sir Michael was Chairman of the National Institute of Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE) from its formation in 1999. He was Vice-chairman (1987-1992) and Chairman (1993-1998) of the Committee on Safety of Medicines, at the UK Regulatory Agency. He is an Honorary Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Emeritus Professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and has held the position of consultant physician and consultant clinical pharmacologist to the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust.
Sir Michael’s experience as a physician and as a regulator gives him a unique perspective on how regulatory affairs contributes to patient wellbeing and whether current regulatory systems deliver the right medicines, in the right time frame for the right price. Reflecting on the increasing influence of bodies like NICE, Sir Michael will challenge us to consider:
- Is the regulatory profession fit for the future?
- Why understanding the centralised procedure is no longer enough
In times of economic pressure, escalating development costs, increasing demands for transparency, legislative evolution and scientific revolution, regulatory professionals need to be ‘future proofed’ to stay successful. What will be the key skills for a regulatory scientist in the future? Come and hear Sir Michael’s forthright opinions on how the regulatory profession should be meeting this challenge
The first TOPRA Annual lecture will be delivered as part of our Awards celebrations on 28 November 2012, at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, London. Places for the lecture will be limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. To book your place at the Lecture and the Awards Dinner click HERE.
